What Is Online Dating
Online dating has been around since the early nineties and has now developed in a multi-billion dollar industry. However, despite its popularity with internet users, its ability to produce results is doubted. According to a study done by Synovate, forty-nine percent of people think internet dating is useful while forty-eight percent think it has no real value. This survey was done on four thousand, three hundred and eighty-six people and of these people, thirty-three percent of people who do not use dating sites believe that online dating is for “desperate” people. This is a common stigma associated with online dating. Also, seventy-seven percent of the surveyed group though that online dating was dangerous.
The same survey performed by Synovate found that the French use internet dating the most followed by Filipinos and then Americans. The percentages are twenty-nine, twenty-one and fifteen respectively. It was also found that fifty-four percent of Koreans never meet in real-life with people from dating sites while thirty-three percent of the French, Americans and Brazilians meet after communicating for more than one week but less than four. Sixteen percent of Romanians were reported to meet in the outside world after only one day while the Filipinos took more than a month.
Of the people who actually had first dates, fifty-eight percent of the French reported disastrous first dates while more than fifty percent of Americans reported the same. However, sixty-six of the French and sixty-four of the Americans reported that they had had more good dates than bad.
